Maria: So?

Liz: What?

Maria: Has he asked you yet?

Liz: Not yet. What about you?

Maria: Yes!!

Liz: Really?

Maria: Yeah. He kinda mumbled something about it in the parking lot. I said yes.

Liz: Typical. Maybe I should ask him.

Maria: It’s the nineties. . . oh wait. It’s not. Go for it anyway.

The library

Anna: Studying hard?

Jacob: Mm Hmm.

Anna: Too bad.

(She shoves his book on the floor.)

Jacob: Bitch!

Anna: Save it. When are you going to ask Caley to Homecoming?

Jacob: I’ll do it soon.

Anna: Homecoming is less than two weeks away and I don’t want to see her go without a date. Ask her.

Jacob: Fine! Will you get off my case?

(She picks up the book and slams it on the table.)

Anna: I’m serious, Jacob.

Lunch time in the quad

Max: I’ve been looking for you.

Liz: Oh have you?

Max: Yeah. I wanted to ask you something.

Liz: Yes.

Max: I haven’t even asked you yet.

Liz: What if I already know what the question is?

Max: Can I still ask anyway?

Liz: Go ahead.

Max: Will you be my date to Homecoming?

Liz: I’d love to.

Max: I’ll pick you up at seven.

Liz: I’ll be waiting.

After school at the apartment.

Jacob: Afternoon, Caley.

Caley: Jacob. What are you up to?

Jacob: Since when am I up to something?

Caley: Since you started addressing me so formally.

Jacob: It’s all part of my self improvement plan.

Caley: It’s a crock of sh-

Jacob: Hey. Hey. Watch the language.

Caley: Who are you and what have you done with my gutter-mouth friend Jacob?

Jacob: Seriously.

Caley: Go ahead and spit it out.

Jacob: Um. . . yeah.

Caley: Your palms are sweating.

Jacob: Doyouwanttogotohomecomingwithme?

Caley: What was that?

Jacob: Homecoming. Yes or no?

Caley: That’s a little better.

Jacob: So that’s a yes?

Caley: Yes.

(He sighs.)

Caley: I’ll see you at seven.

Evening at the Crashdown

(Jordan, Max, and Michael are sitting at one of the booths eating fries and drinking soda.)

Max: You going to Homecoming?

Michael: Yeah. I’m going. You?

Max: Yeah. I’m going with Liz.

Michael: I kinda asked Maria to go. She said she’d see me at seven so I assume that was a yes. What about you, Jordan?

Jordan: I’m going with Anna.

Michael: So you actually took my advise and told her?

Jordan: Your method worked better.

Max: Kiss first and think later?

Jordan: Basically.

Michael: You’re bold, Jordan. I’ll giver you that much.

Jordan: Things have a strange way of working out.

Max: I’ll drink to that.

The apartment

Anna: Well, did he?

Caley: Yes!!

Anna: That’s so great!

Caley: We are going to have the best time.

Anna: And get this. Liz and Max are going together, and so are Michael and Maria.

Caley: It will definitely be a night to remember.

Anna: I wonder who the king and queen will be?
