know but had to do it. :-) Summary: Post JTNY. Liz is getting sick, and her friendships are tested as the gang struggles to help her. No one is getting any sleep as Michael and Isabel start having strange dreams. | "What do you mean I was possessed by an alien?!?" "Kyle, at least it's better than being abducted," Liz tried to sooth. "Yeah, and at least you didn't plant yourself on Max's face for a good ten minutes. Before me and Isabel had to forcibly remove you." "What?" "Huh?" "MICHAEL!" ...Were all shouted in the direction of the hapless alien. Looking his innocent best, Michael asked, "What?" "Michael, that's enough." Isabel firmly stated. Turning to Liz, she told her friend gently, "After you passed out the night before, an alien came and possessed your body, too. She was a niece of Larek, you know, the alien who took Brody to New York, and was here to help us find Kyle." "And she kissed... Max." Liz asked, wanting to make sure she'd heard correctly. "Apparently," Max explained... "She and Zan had been... close before his death." "Oh." Liz couldn't think of anything to add to that alarming statement. "Wait a second," Alex asked. "Liz passed out again? Was it because of the cancer?" He was still dealing with the fact that one of his two best friends in the world possibly had some terminal disease. "Liz, are you ok? Shouldn't you be home in bed? Max, she can go lay down in your bed, right. You should be saving your strength." "Alex, I'm fine. Really. The cancer or whatever it was is completely gone." "Gone? What do you mean?" asked Isabel. "Well, whatever you guys did must have worked. The doctors said that there wasn't anything to worry about. The lump was gone." "We didn't do anything," Michael stated bluntly. Max and Isabel were just staring at her. "Are you sure?" Isabel asked. "Of course, I'm sure. The doctors were practically falling all over themselves trying to figure out what had happened. I told them I didn't remember anything, but that I'd left the hospital to go out to the woods to think." "And they bought that?" Michael asked. "I think so, yeah. But what do you mean that you didn't do anything. Why aren't I still sick? Something like that wouldn't just disappear on its own." Relief flooded through Max as he figured it out. "Brody," he said, causing all of their eyes to swing to him. "He told me that he'd had cancer before he'd been 'abducted', but afterward, all traces of it were gone. The alien that possessed Liz must have healed her somehow." "Thank god," Isabel whispered. "So, it's over?" Maria asked. "You're not dying?" "Yeah, it's over," Liz answered. "See Maria, I told you that I wasn't going to die from this. It never occurred to me that I'd have to be possessed by an alien to be cured, but I knew that there was an answer to all of this somehow." She was a little shell shocked, but already, she was dealing. Deal and move on, that was her new motto. "You knew? How did you know?" Tess asked. "Um, it's kinda a long story. I guess it's ok if I tell you now..." She looked at Max for permission. He nodded. It was time to clear up all the secrets of the past. "So," she nervously said. "I guess I have something to tell you." She looked at Kyle, Alex and Tess as she said it. "What is it?" * * * * * * * * At the other end of the galaxy, on a planet called Basock, Serena had recovered enough of her strength to leave her chamber and go in search of her uncle. It only took a short time, but soon she was tapping on his office door. "Uncle?" "Come in Rina. Come in. Your cousin is here, safely back from his trip to earth. I trust you are well." "Yes, I am. Only a little sad. To see him again, if only for such a short time... I remembered him so clearly, uncle." "So, he is much as he was when he lived among us?" "Well, yes and no. He doesn't look anything the same. Of course, but still, there were quite a few similarities between him and our king. He still is a compassionate and thoughtful leader, but strong too. Willing to do what's right. Just like Zan." "I'm glad you were able to go and help them convince my wayward nephew to return." "Zelwyn, is it safe here for you?" "I can't stay long. Zan has given me an idea of how to handle Khivar. But before I put it into motion I've come to ask Uncle Larek a huge favor." "What is it, Zelwyn?" "Can you build me a husk?" * * * * * * * * Back on this planet, Liz was asking, "Alex, remember the night Maria dragged us to the fortune teller?" He looked uncomfortably at Isabel before answering. "Yes." "Well, something incredible happened to me after you guys left that night." She went on to tell the three of them of her late night visitor in as few words as possible. It was nearly verbatim what she'd told Maria the night they'd met out by the fountain. Only that Future Max had come to her and asked her to find a way to make Max fall out of love with her because the fate of the world depended on it. When she was done, there was a moment of silence until Alex exclaimed, "A time machine!" "Is that even possible, Liz?" Kyle asked her. "Well, Courtney said that time existed in multiple subsets on her planet. Remember when the skins took over Roswell with their time device? I guess it's possible if you know how it all works." "But we don't," Michael said. "We don't know anything about the granilith or how it works, but Max," He looked at his friend apologetically, "I mean Future Max said that we'd figured out how to do it. Do we get help from another alien or what?" "I don't know," Max said. "Maybe that Zelwyn guy will come back to help us," Isabel mused. "I mean, Michael did tell him it was ok if he returned." Kyle threw up his hands. "Oh no. Ain't no way I'm letting another alien in here!" he was pointing to his head as he spoke. "Nah uh. You can just forget it. That Zelwyn, or whatever his name is, is just going to have to find another ride. No free parking." "Kyle, it's ok," Max tried to say. "OK?! Are you out of your mind?! No of course not. It's my mind with the 'room to rent' sign out! Well, no thank you. He's just gonna have to find someone else to take over. I know, it's Alex's turn, right? Let him go hang with Alex the next time..." "KYLE!!" Max shouted to get his attention. "It's ok because Zelwyn can't take you over again. Whatever it was that allowed him to enter your body in the first place is gone now. It's over. If Zelwyn returns, it'll either be in someone else's body, or in a husk like Courtney. You're safe now. You and Liz." "Liz, too?" Maria asked. "When did that happen?" Isabel wondered. Rina had left Liz's body before they could ask her to fix it yesterday. There was a short silence. "Last night," Max reluctantly admitted. Throwing out her hands, Liz asked, "Wait, what do you mean, 'last night'? I was asleep in my bed all night." Max looked down at his shoes and said, "Not all night." His guilty expression told them more about the encounter than they had wanted to know. Especially Liz. Watching them, Kyle started laugh. "Oh, that's priceless." Liz looked like she wanted to be angry at something, but couldn't decide what, and Max... Max just looked like he knew he would be spending the next few months in the dog house or worse. "Kyle, this is not funny," Tess told him emphatically. He immediately sobered. "I'm sorry. You're right. Well, Liz, look on the bright side. At least the alien that got you had the hots for good ole Max here. I mean you could be discovering that you were sucking face with Alex, or," shudder, "Michael, all night." "Thanks, Kyle," Liz said sarcastically. "That helps a lot." "Hey, anytime." "Actually," Michael said, "That probably wouldn't have been such a bad thing. OW! Would you let me finish?" He'd been interrupted by Maria punching him again. "I was going to say that if she had been after anyone but Max, it would have been obvious right away that there was something wrong. Instead, it just looked like Liz and Max doing their Liz-and-Max thing." Max desperately wanted to bring the conversation around, so he stated, "Well at least we know that Liz and Kyle are safe from any other alien takeovers in the future. If they're coming back, they'll have to find another way." * * * * * * * * On Basock, Larek asked, "A husk? "Yes. In case my plan to get Khivar to negotiate fails, the royal four have given me permission to join them on Earth. If you could start it right away for me, then it'll be ready sooner. I just hope that I can make it that long." "They take a long time to grow and mature." "Yes, I know, uncle. That is why I'm asking you to start one today. I've made arrangements to go into hiding if I must, but I can't live my life in fear of Khivar and his men. Leaving here is my only alternative. Could you do this for me, please?" "Of course, Zelwyn. We'll begin it right away. We'll have to do a scan of your body for the musculature and bone structure synthesis." "Thank you, Uncle Larek." The two men continued to make their plans while Rina stayed to listen. Her mind was a whirl with possibilities. A whole new wealth of unconsidered possibilities waited on the horizon. Perhaps her 'goodbye' to Zan had just become 'till we meet again'. |
