ABC pilot adds Hanks byline; Fox, UPN order

By Nellie Andreeva

Colin Hanks has been tapped as the lead in ABC's untitled Joel Stein/Marsh McCall comedy pilot.

In comedy pilot pickup news, Fox has ordered "Spellbound" and "Sweden, Ohio," both from Warner Bros. TV, while UPN has greenlighted "The Bad Girl's Guide," a pilot presentation from Paramount Network TV.

The Stein/McCall project, from Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Acme Prods., centers on a young reporter (Hanks) who makes waves at a respected magazine. The project is based on Stein's experience as being the youngest reporter ever at Time magazine.

Hanks' feature credits include "Orange County" and "Get Over It." On TV, he was seen on the series "Roswell."

The actor, who next appears in the ensemble indie comedy "Standing Sill," is repped by CAA.
