The Toy House
60 min.
Max and Isabel clash over revealing their alien origins to their adoptive mother in an emotionally charged episode.

The conflict arises after Max (Jason Behr) uses his powers to save his mother (Mary Ellen Trainor) from a serious grease fire. Although he is initially able to explain it away, the incident reminds his mom of a strange occurrence from Max's childhood. Years ago he inadvertently used his alien abilities and was caught on videotape. As their mother struggles to understand her son's behavior, Isabel pressures Max to finally tell the truth. But Michael doesn't trust Mrs. Evans, warning Max that “adults are the enemy.”

Into the Woods
60 min.
A bright flash of light in the sky is witnessed by several people in the woods near Riverdog's reservation, leading Max and Isabel to investigate the incident during a school camping trip. Liz is forced to endure the outing with her father and pays Maria to accompany them.

The Convention
60 min.
The origin of Sheriff Valenti's obsession with aliens is explored in a well-scripted episode that sheds light on the downfall of the lawman's father.

Sharing Valenti's fixation with otherworldly beings is Everett Hubble, an alien hunter drawn to Roswell by a convention at the UFO Center, hosted by Jonathan Frakes. Hubble enlists the sherriff's help in finding an extraterrestrial killer who he believes is responsible for a series of deaths over the last 40 years. In return for the sheriff's cooperation, Hubble promises to reveal what really happened the night of a shooting that ended the law-enforcement career of Valenti's father.

Blind Date
60 min.
Liz (Shiri Appleby) endures a blind date set up by a local radio station in a light-hearted episode that mocks the media's intrusive nature.

In this case, it's an obnoxious DJ who illustrates the media's invasive tendency as he accompanies Liz and her date (James O'Shea) to dinner and reports their actions to a live audience in play-by-play fashion. Annoyed by their lack of privacy, the couple flee the leering radio personality and his entourage, setting off a strange game of cat and mouse that includes a run-in with a drunken Max, who has fallen victim to a vindictive Kyle. Meanwhile, Maria joins Alex's band and immediately takes over.

Friday, January 31

Independence Day
60 min.
Michael shows up at school with a black eye after a violent encounter with his foster father (Robert F. Lyons). Isabel urges him to report the incident, but Michael is reluctant to draw attention to himself. Meanwhile, Maria and Liz experience an embarrassing run-in with Sheriff Valenti when they catch him making out with Maria's mother (Diane Farr).
