'Buffy,' 'Roswell' partner, 'Enterprise' bows on UPN
May 18, 2001

NEW YORK -- It was all about passion, vampire slayers and space travel at UPN's upfront presentation Thursday at Madison Square Garden, where the network unveiled a fall lineup that features the WB Network imports "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Roswell" as well as the latest "Star Trek" installment "Enterprise."

"I want to talk to you about passion," UPN president and CEO Dean Valentine told the advertisers and media buyers. "Four out of our five nights of programming are fan-based, and they're magnets for fiercely devoted audience." Valentine declared the new UPN schedule "the best fall lineup that I've had the privilege to present to you."

Valentine was introduced by William Shatner as a man who "develops original shows or pays the WB for their shows." In a taped comedy bit set to the theme from "Mission: Impossible," Valentine and other UPN executives poked fun at themselves, re-enacting how they "stole" the "Buffy" series from the WB.
