A Roswell Christmas Carol

Pass the Christmas cheese.

December 18, 2000

You know, deep down, cute aliens have just as much of a need for that perfect Charlie Brown Christmas as any of the rest of us. Our little Roswellians are no different.

Isabel, for example, is the Christmas Nazi, a pert sassmaster swathed in red and green cashmere. Hair in perfect, tightly-wound ringlets, she flounces from event to event spreading holiday joy and anxiety -- she's like Martha Stewart by way of Cosmo. And Tess just wants a little familial-type joy -- but she's not getting it from those louts Kyle and Pa Valenti. Meanwhile, Michael searches for the perfect crappy gift for Maria, and it is revealed that Brodie has a young daughter (!) who was recently diagnosed with cancer (!!).

The real crux of the ep, however, is Max failing to save a guy he easily could have brought back to life, silver-handprint-style. Oh, the guilt! Oh, the tragedy! Oh, the sweet little furrows in Jason Behr's brow! When he's haunted by the ghost of the guy, Max knows that he has to do something pure and good to redeem himself. While you're at it, Max, why not do some more pull-ups? That would certainly redeem you in my eyes..............

WHAT HAPPENED

Max and Michael search for the perfect Christmas tree, following directions from an as-yet unidentified "Christmas Nazi."

Michael wants to go to the hardware store to find the perfect present for Maria. Max suggests that he shop elsewhere.

A car skids through the lot, headed towards a young girl. Max looks on as her father pushes her out of the way, but is struck himself.....

ROSWELL 2.10 FAQ
WHAT’S IT CALLED?
“A Roswell Christmas Carol.”

WHO’S REPSONSIBLE?
Teleplay is credited to series creator Jason Katims.

WHY IS THIS REVIEW DIFFERENT?
A scheduling glitch actually made me miss the last half of this week’s episode.

THEN WHY BOTHER TO REVIEW THIS WEEK’S EPISODE AT ALL?
Because what I saw of this Christmas installment was sensational, more successful in the realms of comedy and drama perhaps than any other “Roswell” this season. Which, as one might surmise, made missing the latter half of this episode particularly vexing.
