Horror spoof will ``Shriek'' on cable

By Dana Harris

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - As evidence that the teen horror movie trend has peaked, new spoof ``Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday The 13th'' will bypass U.S. movie theaters in favor of a cable premiere.

The film will bow Oct. 17 as part of USA Network's ``Shriek Week,'' a pre-Halloween slate of scary movies.

``Shriek'' parodies teen horror films like ``Scream'' and ``I Know What You Did Last Summer'' by mocking a beautiful young reporter sent to investigate a series of murders called the Spring Break Massacre. It stars Tom Arnold, Tiffani Thiessen and Coolio.

The film was originally called ``I Know What You Screamed Last Semester.'' Sources say the switch comes courtesy of strong suggestions from Miramax Films, which has a history of being territorial when it comes to its ``Scream'' franchise. Miramax sued Columbia Pictures in 1997, alleging an implied connection between Columbia's ``I Know What You Did Last Summer'' and ``Scream.''
